APCH CTLR TECHNIQUE ATC WAS NOT APPRECIATED BY PLT OF SMA TWIN. RADAR VECTORING TOO CLOSE AND HIGH TO LOM.
Narrative
I WAS ENRTE FROM DAYTON TO GRAND RAPIDS AT 6000 FT IN A TWIN. AFTER PASSING KALAMAZOO; MI; I WAS HANDED OFF TO GRAND RAPIDS APCH. I CONTACTED GRAND RAPIDS APCH AND REQUESTED A LOWER ALT. I WAS CLRED DOWN TO 4000 FT AND WAS ADVISED TO MAINTAIN 190 KTS OR BETTER. I REPLIED THAT I WAS UNABLE AND WAS THEN ADVISED TO MAINTAIN AT LEAST 160 KTS. I CONFIRMED THE 160 KTS AND LEVELED OFF AT 4000 FT. I WAS ON A NORTHERLY HDG EXPECTING THE ILS FOR 8R AT GRAND RAPIDS. GRAND RAPIDS APCH CLRED ME TO 2500 FT; HAD ME TURN RIGHT TO 060; CLRED ME FOR THE ILS 8R APCH; ADVISED ME TO RESUME NORMAL SPD AND TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE TWR. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT I WAS PASSING OVER THE OM STILL ON A NORTHERLY HDG AT THE TIME. IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO SLOW DOWN; LOWER THE GEAR; BANK TO CAPTURE THE LOC WHICH SWUNG INSTANTLY FROM FULL SCALE L TO FULL SCALE R AND DSND TO CAPTURE THE GS WHICH WAS FULL SCALE DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO RECAPTURE BOTH THE LOC AND GS BEFORE REACHING MINS AND LANDED SAFELY. IT WOULD MAKE SENSE TO ME THAT IF THE CEILINGS ARE 200 FT THAT APCH CTL WOULD GIVE YOU A MORE RELAXED APCH THAN THIS.
