Synopsis

Part 107 UAS pilot reported flying in controlled airspace without authorization. Pilot reported being unable to update the mapping software prior to the flight due to internet connectivity issues.

Narrative

I was going to operate this micro drone for a client's music event at an outdoor restaurant. When I went to check for airspace on a website; I had problems with internet connections and updating as it was my first time in this state and location. I tried checking an application as well for airspace; and it showed the area was clear. I believe the application was faulty or not up to date; and provided mismatched information. The drone operated was less than 50 feet at all times and only around the event space and briefly the beach. This drone operated weighs less than 100 grams and I've never had issues with my airspace application before. After the flight was made I later rechecked the airspace to see it update correctly to show the correct information. I've since updated and double checked all applications are faa-certified to prevent a false reading of sorts from occurring. There were no actual incidents that occurred during; before; or after the flight time; and 95% of the flight was done at the event space to film participants from above; estimated at around 15ft agl. I will make sure that every application and airspace is double checked in the future as well as making sure LAANC waivers are able to be submitted. I felt it was important to at least document this error for the safety of aviation going forward; as this venue also confirmed how they've had many countless times where there has been drones operated in this location.
