Narrative
At some point during the takeoff roll; the number 2 engine EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) turned red. The temperature was approximately 1;000 degrees Celsius for 45 seconds to minute.I was the pilot flying and continued to fly the aircraft on the SID until the flaps were up and the autopilot was engaged. At that point I handed the aircraft to the first officer and started to run the checklists. We continued on the flight and started discussing diverting or continuing. Once the decision to divert was made; I contacted dispatch to let them know of the situation and the we were going to divert to ZZZ. Since it was going to be an overweight landing; I [Advised ATC] and started to run the non routine landing checklist and overweight landing checklist. I let the flight attendants know that we were diverting to ZZZ for mechanical reasons. It was a normal landing at 156;000 lbs. The number 1 engine had a maintenance discrepancy for engine monitoring and did not overheat. Cause: Even before the event happened; it was an abnormally busy departure. It was a Bleeds OFF 27k takeoff and we were close to min t/o fuel. There was some task saturation during the whole process and I could've helped to slow everything down better.
Second reporter narrative
At ZZZ while performing a 27K; engine bleeds off takeoff from runway XX; we had an Engine #2 EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) overtemp at rotation speed; after v1. Captain was initial PF; FO PM. EGT of approximately 1;000 degrees for approximately 45 seconds. After initial exceedance no further discrepancies or abnormal engine indications. Handled IAW (In Accordance With) the QRC/QRH. We transferred aircraft control- FO PF and CA PM. We decided the safest and most appropriate action was to land at nearest suitable airport - ZZZ1. Standard Divert. [Advised ATC] and overweight landing IAW QRH. Normal landing; taxied clear; ARFF (Airport Rescue and Firefighting) verified safe brake temperatures and followed to gate. Cause: Use of 27K bump with bleeds off is stressful on engines. Further reduce TO (Takeoff) weight to mitigate demand on engines.
