Air carrier flight crew reported loss of pressurization due to door not being sealed which resulted in a return to the departure airport.
Synopsis
Air carrier flight crew reported loss of pressurization due to door not being sealed which resulted in a return to the departure airport.
Narrative
On the initial climb we got a call from the purser at 1L reporting a loud wind noise at 1L. The cabin climb nearly matched our aircraft climb rate and the pressurization showed only 0.5 psi. There was no indication light of the entry door not being closed. I searched through the QRH; but could not find an appropriate checklist. We leveled off at 10;000 and I tried to reach the station on VHF. I knew we were too low to reach Dispatch via AIRINC so I messaged Maintenance Control/Dispatch. We decided to return to ZZZ and made an uneventful landing. The noise was so loud at 1L that the purser could not be reached. The return was communicated via the flight attendants in the aft galley and a PA was made to the passengers. After arriving at the gate; the agent meeting the flight took a picture of the door from the outside. I inspected the door prior to opening. The upper left corner of the door had a gap the size of a finger on the inside. The picture I saw from outside showed the right side of the door not flush with the fuselage. An ELB (Electronic Log Book) entry was made and the aircraft was taken out of service.
Second reporter narrative
Took off out of ZZZ; Flight Attendant (FA) calls around 3000ft and says main cabin door super loud. We notice aircraft not pressurizing as well. No door light ever illuminates. We stop at 10k and tell ATC. Captain tries to find any info in QRH. We decide to return to ZZZ. I fly an ILS back into the field. Uneventful landing. Upon reaching the gate; agent says door is visibly cracked open from the outside. Not visible from inside the aircraft.
