Synopsis
A homebuilt kit aircraft pilot reported engine loss while approaching their destination and made a successful landing.
Narrative
TestFlight #3. While in cruise experienced an unusual issue with leaning. While at 7;500' over the delta about the island.Immediately changed course towards ZZZ starting slow descent to 5000 feet.Once in the vicinity of the ZZZ airport 7 miles west just as I was getting ready to call the Tower the engine lost power. As indicated by falling then zero EGT and zero CHT and unresponsive to mixture; fuel pressure; restarting process or throttle control movement.Attempted to turn on fuel pump; but already had fuel pressure. So it wasn't out of fuel. With Propeller Windmilling engine would not restart.I immediately pointed directly at center of ZZZ airport and trimmed best glide speed with gear up.Then call Tower and reported position and told them I had ATIS with wind and weather conditions.I reported no power [requested priority handling] and was given priority to Runway XX right.About halfway to the airport; realized it was going to be close alerted Tower that I was landing on XY left. Was able to make dipstick Landing successfully on Runway XY left. rolled out halfway down runway; near Taxiway 1.Emergency crew called for a tow. While awaiting a tow; and after letting trying to restart engine using primer button I was able to re-fire. While momentarily using primer and fuel pump enough to get me to the east ramp and close to the hanger .Pulled airplane back into hanger pull the top cowling to inspect discovered that the mixture control cable ball stud nut was missing; and the mixture control was not attached; off of the throttlebody'. And mixture control arm was in the lean position.Explaining why the engine quit.
