Honda Jet pilot reported brake failure during landing resulting in the aircraft having a runway excursion.
Synopsis
Honda Jet pilot reported brake failure during landing resulting in the aircraft having a runway excursion.
Narrative
VMC daytime landing at ZZZ airport runway XX. ASOS not reporting at ZZZ. Used ZZZ1 for weather. Winds reported at ZZZ1 190@9 knots. Aircraft was configured for normal landing; gear down and locked with three green gear lights illuminated and flaps set to landing. Crossed ZZZ2 at Vref. Normal touchdown in the touchdown zone. Initiated breaking in accordance with HondaJet landing and breaking procedures. Applied constant breaking with increased pressure during rollout. Aircraft began decelerating and with constant pressure the breaks began pulsating. Approximately midway down the runway and at approximately 50 knots aircraft stopped decelerating despite constant break pressure. Appeared that breaks had failed and at that point pilot determined there was not enough aircraft speed or enough remaining runway for a successful go around. Pilot continued to apply break pressure in accordance with HondaJet procedures but with failed brakes the pilot realized the aircraft would not come to a complete stop before the end of the runway. The pilot maintained forward directional control avoiding runway end lights until the aircraft came to a stop off the end of the runway in the airport overrun area. The asphalt runway had no standing water. Pilot secured the aircraft. There were no injuries. There was no apparent damage to the aircraft other than the gear bogging down in the grass overrun area.
