Synopsis
Military helicopter pilot reported an onboard flight instructor reported an NMAC with a UAS during final approach. No evasive action was taken.
Narrative
On Day 0 at approximately XA:05 PM local time; I was operating as Pilot in Command of Aircraft X with a crew consisting of two pilots and three crew chiefs; one of whom was a flight instructor providing instruction to the other two crew chiefs. While established on a base turn for Runway XX at approximately 1;000 feet MSL and 80 knots indicated airspeed; the flight instructor visually acquired a small drone off our right side. The drone was black/gray in color; estimated to be 1 to 1.5 feet in width; and notably did not display any visible lights (either not installed or potentially taped over or covered). The drone was observed at an approximate slant range of 175 feet from our aircraft. Our approximate position at the time of the sighting was located just south of the interstate.Upon sighting the drone; we immediately notified Tower of the unmanned aircraft's presence. Following landing; I reported the incident to the appropriate personnel. One of them provided me with this report to file.Tower personnel also indicated they would file their own report; possibly with the FAA; although I do not have confirmation of those details. No evasive maneuvering was required; but the proximity of the drone posed a potential hazard to flight safety
