Synopsis
Pilot reported a near miss at MMV airport while crossing the hold-short line for takeoff with an aircraft on final approach due to limited visibility of the final approach at the hold short line.
Narrative
Landed MMV Runway 22; wind favored Runway 35. After full stop landing on Runway 22; taxied via Taxiway D to Runway 35. Held short of Runway 35 at hold-short line. Observing no traffic on final for Runway 35 and hearing no traffic call from on final; I made a call on CTAF announcing my departure. I crossed the hold-short line. Immediately crossing the hold-short line; observed another aircraft on short final - approximately 1/4 NM from touchdown and 300 feet AGL. Stopped my aircraft; other aircraft conducted touch-and-go landing without incident. There is no run-up pad for this runway on Taxiway D and the hold-short line is so close to the runway as to preclude an S turn to observe traffic on final. My own practice going forward will be to hold short of Runway 35 while pointed opposite direction on Taxiway D to observe traffic on final. For MMV/City of McMinnville; give consideration to relocating the Runway 35 hold-short line to a point on Taxiway D that enables traffic on final to be seen.
