Synopsis

EMB-145 Captain reported smoke in cabin and cockpit during descent and aircraft shutdown and evacuated on the taxiway.

Narrative

Upon descent through FL220 established on the ZZZZZ Arrival; we passed through an area of icing conditions which activated the deicing system. The First Officer and I smelled smoke in the cockpit; to which we discussed the potential origin of. Flight Attendant contacted us through emergency comm; and confirmed smoke in the cabin as well as the smell of smoke. While we were communicating with them; I observed the cockpit become hazy with smoke. I immediately requested priority handling with ZZZ Center; and proceeded to conduct a priority landing following all Checklist and SOP procedures to the best of my ability. The situation and evacuation was conducted based on prior training received through company. Once we landed on XXR in ZZZ; I exited the aircraft expediently and conducted the emergency evacuation procedure; having coordinated with the Flight Attendant and ATC ahead of time. I had originally planned to conduct the evacuation on the runway after immediately bringing the aircraft to a stop; but made the snap judgement to instead exit right and conduct the evacuation on the taxiway parallel to XXR on the opposite side of XXL. This was primarily due to my observation of aircraft lined up and holding short of XXL. I also observed emergency services waiting for us on that taxiway. An emergency descent was not conducted due to no pressurization issues observed. We were established in a descent before the fact. Fire and Smoke QRC and QRH was conducted after the immediate establishment of ATC / Company / passenger /Attendant comms and turned on appropriate heading. QRH for fire was unable to be completed due to immediate landing duties. Aircraft met fire services on taxiway parallel to XXR. Finally; there was initially some delay responding to the problem due to suspected improper installation of First Officer (FO) oxygen mask. All crewmembers did the best job that they could given the extenuating circumstances and should be commended for their hard work and expedient actions to bring about the best possible resolution to this unfortunate event.
