Synopsis

Flight Instructor and student reported a NMAC while executing a practice instrument approach at a non-towered airport. Pilots executed a go-around and conflicted with traffic departing on an intersecting runway.

Narrative

My instructor and I were conducting our long xc requirement per 61.65 when we were vectored onto final for RNAV 12. Once advised to switch to CTAF; we began our position reports for 7; 5; and 3 NM out on the RNAV 12. Multiple other Aircraft were responding to our calls and began to forward slip in front of our aircraft to try and make it in before us. Once I entered ground effect; I was excessively floating which prompted me to execute a missed approach per 91.175. While going missed; Aircraft Y was taking off the perpendicular runway. My instructor then took controls and executed a climbing turn at about 200 feet in order to avoid the collision. Aircraft Y then started yelling at us on freq that we were using the wrong runway; even though multiple people had been landing on ours. My instructor then informed the pilot that we had to execute the missed for excessive floating. The other pilot then said we shouldn't do practice approaches if we don't know how to land properly. My instructor then informed him that we are in training hence the practice approach. Other pilots then spoke up for us saying we were following the regs as per 91.175.

Second reporter narrative

we conducted the long xc IFR requirement per 61.65 for my student in Aircraft X. We were vectored to the FAF for the RNAV 12 into DED. Once we were told to switch to CTAF; we reported our position at 7; 5; and 3 NM out on the RNAV 12. During these calls; multiple other aircraft's were listening and reporting back to us that they were looking for us but continued to enter final from various directions while doing forwards slips to beat us in. As my student entered ground effect; he started to excessively float which prompted a Missed Approach Procedure. At this point; I noticed Aircraft Y on the RWY perpendicular to us; and proceeded to do a Chandelle maneuver at 200 ft in order to avoid the collision. The other pilot then proceeded to yell at us; saying the active was RWY 5 not 12; even though we watched multiple aircraft land on 12 and cut us off on final. We then told him that we executed the missed per 91.175; where the other pilot then said we should not do an approach here if we can't land with a short distances. Other Pilots reported back to him that per 91.175 we are to execute the missed if we are unstable; which we were. I then advised ATC that RNAV 12 was unsafe to allow at this time.
