Synopsis
Flight Attendants reported engine malfunction during cruise flight. Flight diverted and aircraft underwent maintenance action after landing.
Narrative
We were a little over two hours in our flight from ZZZ to ZZZ1 when the CPT asked the FA's to be seated. Once we sat down FA A and I heard a few loud noises coming from the cabin. She attempted to call the pilots but they didn't answer. I told her to hang up and we would wait for the pilots to call. About five minutes later the CPT called and said that we had a number two engine compressor problem and he had more work to do but he would call me back when he finished his duties. I then called the FA's in the back and let them know what was happening. I asked them to pick up the remaining service items and secure the galley. The CPT called and gave me more detailed information. He informed me that we had a number two engine compressor issue and that it had recalibrated itself but he had requested priority handing with ATC. He said evacuation is not necessary and that we had 15 minutes to prepare the cabin and there were no special instructions. He also informed me that we would be parking at a hard stand while the mechanics inspected the engine. I then called the FA's in the back and informed them of what was happening. We finished up securing the cabin and performed a manuel demo. FA A and I then took our jumpseats. I made an announcement for the pax to remain seated when we landed. FA A turned the lights to bright and we took our brace position and waited to land. Once we landed we were met with firetrucks and we parked off the taxiway. The mechanics informed the pilots that the engine looked good. The CPT then made an announcement that we were going to a gate for precautionary measures. Once we arrived at the gate I disarmed my door and cross checked my partner. I then made the all call announcement and the FA's answered. The gate agent opened the door and asked if we were okay and if we were continuing on with the new aircraft. Our pairing had not been updated so I wasn't sure what we were doing. She announced that all pax were to deplane and proceed to gate XX and wait for the aircraft to be prepared to take them to ZZZ1. At this point the cabin crew manager called me to check on us. I told him we were fine and we were waiting on scheduling to update our schedule. The CPT then came out and we debriefed. He asked us to give him feedback. Then he and the FO left to go operate the new flight to ZZZ1. We remained on the aircraft with the mechanics while they worked on the engine. Once they finished they told us that they were moving the aircraft. We deplaned and went into the terminal. I called scheduling three or four times asking for an update. I was informed once the new crew arrived we would have our pairing updated. The crew arrived and went to the gate but they couldn't be checked in because they had not been added to the flight. It took about three hours to get to the hotel and get checked in after we had landed.
Second reporter narrative
Engine failure with diversion to ZZZ2We were about half way through the flight when we received a call from the captain telling us there was a compression stall in one of the engines. We were told to wait for further instructions. We received a call from the purser with our information. We were going to be diverting to ZZZ2 and to prepare the cabin for landing. We prepared the cabin and reassured customers that everything will be alright. We then preformed a safety demo. We did compliance as we walked back to our jumpseats and were told by the captain to take our jumpseats and that we will be landing soon. We landed safely. We were stopped at the end of the runway for what seamed about 15mins as mechanics took a look at the engine from outside. We were then sent to a gate where we deplaned. We waited in the airport for over 3 hrs for our pairing to change and to receive a hotel since most of the crew were not legal.
