Synopsis
A Flight Instructor and student reported the student lost control of the aircraft during landing resulting in a prop strike; tail strike and runway excursion.
Narrative
METAR stated winds calm. My student was to perform solo pattern work to build time towards his private pilot certificate. Around XA:30-XB:00 (dual instruction) 2 pattern laps were conducted as touch n goes for a solo warmup. I noted that those were the best landings I've seen out of my student. On the second lap during base turn we noted a little push from the tail (indicating a tail wind on base leg for XXL @ ZZZ). Student and myself both discussed this and the student stated he was comfortable with current conditions for solo. After the second landing I told him to take me to the ramp and drop me off. We discussed if he felt comfortable and he confirmed again that he was. I also verified that he had all documents required for solo flight. He stated yes. I then told him to do full stop landings and to have fun and be safe. Following this I exited the aircraft. Around XB:00-XB:15 (solo pattern) Student taxis out and takes off without issue. While he was in the pattern I was listening on a ground radio. Before Tower clears him to land I heard Tower call out winds at 340@6 to a different aircraft. Following this I believe he was cleared to land. I then hear Tower advise on frequency that XXL was closed due to an incident. Shortly after this; I hear my student come on frequency stating that he had a hard landing and was alright but the aircraft was in the grass. Following this; ZZZ fire and security were dispatched to the aircraft. After verifying the student was uninjured the aircraft was towed back to the ramp for inspection and debriefing. Due to this hard landing the aircraft sustained a prop and tail strike. Following this my chief instructor was notified of the prop and tail strike. The aircraft was put out of service and the other instructors at the school were informed of it.
Second reporter narrative
Aircraft bounced and veered off runway into the grass.
