Synopsis

A321 flight crew reported ECAM: ENG 1 COMPRESSOR VANE during takeoff roll. Flight crew rejected the takeoff.

Narrative

Nothing significant to report up until takeoff. CA briefed the RTO (Rejected Takeoff) policy; mechanics; and gameplan thoroughly during the Pairing Brief.Aircraft X was cleared to line up and wait on RWY XXR on Day 0. Once cleared for takeoff (with an advisory of landing traffic on XYL on a 2 NM final); thrust was advanced by the Pilot Flying (CA) to FLEX; all in accordance with Company and Airbus practices (after initial spool-up; thrust was moderately/steadily advanced to the FLEX detent). Prior to the 'Airspeed Alive' callout by the Pilot Monitoring (FO); we received the following ECAM: ENG 1 COMPRESSOR VANE. PM called 'engine 1' and started to annunciate the word 'compressor' as the PF (CA) rejected the takeoff. After a moment to realize that the ground spoilers would not be deploying based on the RTO speed; PM then announced 'reverse green' and monitored the autobrakes as the crew then advised tower that we were rejecting the takeoff off of RWY XXR.After coordinating with tower; we cleared XXR and taxied onto XYR via a right-hand turnoff; and then onto taxiway 1 to hold short of 2 (essentially completing a left-hand 180 turn) to complete our required items and to coordinate with maintenance; dispatch; ops; and inflight crew / customers. All memory items (none); bypass (none); ECAM action items (ENG 1 shut down); and QRH items (nothing additional) were completed as well; followed by the After Landing checklist.Once all of this was accomplished; we then taxied back to gate XX; shut down; completed the Parking Checklist; and consulted with Tech Ops (who then confirmed that the aircraft would be taken out of service). Once everyone was off the aircraft; we de-planed and awaited our spare aircraft (which was subsequently towed in to gate XY). From thereon; Aircraft Y flew from ZZZ to ZZZ1 uneventfully.
