Synopsis
Air taxi pilot flying reported a possible radio dead spot at the hold-short area of Runway 22 at Taxiway Yankee at HOU and stated that this phenomenon has also affected other pilots.
Narrative
During the repositioning of the aircraft from FBO to the hangar; we maintained Ground Control on COM2 and monitored Tower on COM1. While holding short of Runway 22 at Taxiway Yankee; we received no response from Ground Control for more than 10 minutes. After multiple unsuccessful attempts; we contacted Tower. Tower subsequently dispatched an airport operations vehicle to our location and informed us that no transmissions had been received from our aircraft; despite us actively monitoring and transmitting on the assigned frequencies. There is a possible dead spot in that area. In the past I have noticed that in the area of the taxi centerline and the hold line; there seems to be a dead spot; where Tower and Ground cannot be heard. Another pilot had a go-around because of this phenomenon. There was an aircraft in that spot and was not communicating with Ground at that time.A study to determine the extent of this phenomenon in that area; to include antenna height as possible issue or possibly moving the hold line.
