Synopsis
B737-800 Flight Attendants reported that the aircraft door was not properly opened by a gate agent upon arrival and the rocking of the door caused the girt bar to fall from the brackets and lodge in the door opening the slide bustle. Maintenance was called; the slide was removed; and passengers deplaned.
Narrative
FA A and I both disarmed and cross checked our doors. I did notice mine wasn't tight like some of the other girt bars; I didn't think anything of it I just thought it was one of the older ones. Some are really hard to disarm others are not.As I am making the all call I see the agent struggling with the door I noticed she was trying to rock it open. While I was still on the interphone I heard a click like something hit the door and I looked over to see the slide bustle opened. I hung up the phone quickly grabbed the door to prevent her from opening it. I couldn't figure out why the slide opened since the door was visibly disarmed.I heard the manager who was training her yell to stop.We waited about 30 minutes for the mechanic to come remove the slide then everyone deplaned. Slide did not inflate. The jet bridge was not flush with the AC (Aircraft) the agent stood there to ensure PAX (Passengers) deplaned safely due to the large gap. Cause: Faulty girt bar bracketSuggestions: Tighten the girt brackets; this should be something we are told to write up. The girt bar brackets were not tight; the rocking of the door caused the girt bar to slide enough to the left that it was able to hit the lower side of the door opening.
Second reporter narrative
FA B and I both disarmed and crosschecked our doors. The #1 did the all call and while on the interphone the agent was trying to open the door. She was having a hard time and seemed to be rocking the door. The #1 was trying to tell her to stop when we saw girt bar on the floor. and slide coming out of slide pack. The door couldn't open because girt bar slide pack blocking it. We waited 30 minutes for mechanics and they were able to get the slide in casing and on jetbridge and ac (Aircraft) door open. The slide didn't inflate. The jetbridge was not flush with aircraft and the agent stood there while psg (Passengers) deplaned to watch their step. The agent who opened the door was in training.Suggestions: I would recommend if the agent is having issues with the door being really hard to open to try to look and figure out if there is a problem before really getting rough with it. In her defense she was learning and didn't know how hard to pull it.
