Synopsis

GA pilot reported while departing an uncontrolled airport observing another aircraft in close proximity resulting in the pilot taking evasive action to avoid a collision with the other aircraft.

Narrative

I was taking off in a PT-22; Aircraft X. This is a WWll primary trainer; open cockpit; no electrical system; however; I do have a vhf comm radio powered by a 12 volt gel cell battery. I was departing on runway XX. Winds were approximately 230- 250 at 5 kts. Weather was clear;slightly hazy; visibility approximately 10 miles at approximately XA:50 pm.Westover (ZZZ) is an uncontrolled airport. On the AWOS there is a comment that states that 'runway XX is preferred with winds less than 5 knots; left traffic.'After completing my pre-takeoff checklist I heard and observed one aircraft flying overhead entering left downwind for runway XX. I didn't hear or observe any other aircraft in the pattern for this airport. I did hear other aircraft on the frequency but not for this airport. This aircraft is a taildragger; flown from the rear seat with number 1 cylinder protruding from the top of the forward cowling. As a result; there is no forward visibility directly in front of the aircraft; even with the tailwheel up on takeoff. Taxing; climbing and cruise requires the pilot to make gradual s-turns to see directly in front of the aircraft. Just after takeoff and approximately 100 feet in the air; I observed a high wing Cessna slightly forward of my position; approximately 200 feet to my left and maybe 10-30 feet slightly higher than me. I was totally surprised to see this aircraft and made an immediate right turn to avoid the aircraft. I believe this aircraft saw me as he was to the east of the runway. During climbout I asked the Cessna if he reported his position and he said he did and was on the rnav approach (for runway XX). I never heard him and I believe he was probably trying to land on runway XY as he was much lower than the MDA for that approach. In the future; I will take more time to takeoff and maybe fly slightly to the right of the runway to avoid not being able to see in front of the aircraft..
