VFR ACFT REFUSED VFR FLT FOLLOWING BY MIL APCH CTL.
Narrative
ON 12/X/92 3 ACFT WERE REFUSED VFR ADVISORIES BY NQX. ALL 3 ACFT WERE EITHER ASKED IF THEY TALK TO NQX OR TOLD TO CONTACT NQX ON THE VFR ADVISORY FREQ. ALL SAID NQX WAS TOO BUSY TO ASSIST THEM. THE NQX VFR ADVISORY SVC WAS PUT IN PLACE OVER 4 YRS AGO TO ASSIST PLTS FLYING INTO KEY WEST. IT WAS DONE BECAUSE MANY PLTS GET CONFUSED FLYING THE KEY CHAIN. MANY THINK THE KEYS RUN N AND S WHEN THEY RUN E AND W. BY THINKING THIS; THE PLTS GIVE ERRONEOUS POS RPTS. ALSO THERE IS RESTR AREA 2916 WITH A BALLOON AND CABLE TO 14000. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AREA BECAUSE A PLT CANNOT SEE THE CABLE. LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE NQX BASE IS ONLY 2.5 MI E OF EYW. WITH MANY PLTS FOLLOWING THE KEYS TO KEY WEST. THEY HAVE TO FLY THROUGH THE NQX AIRSPACE. NQX HAS NUMEROUS HIGH SPD JET TFC AT 2000 FT FLYING FROM THE W INTO RWY 7 AT NQX. THIS IS NOSE TO NOSE WITH ACFT FOLLOWING THE KEYS TO EYW. THAT IS WHY THE REP SEVERAL YRS AGO PUT IN PLACE THE NQX VFR ADVISORY SVC. IN MY OPINION TO REFUSE ACFT SVC IS UNSAFE AND UNACCEPTABLE.
