Synopsis

Flight Instructor reported an aircraft purposely landed opposite landing traffic at a non-towered airport resulting in a critical ground conflict.

Narrative

To whom it may concern; On Day 0 at approximately XA:58; I was in the pattern at Birchwood Airport (PABV); Birchwood Alaska. I was flying Aircraft X. Multiple planes were already in the pattern to land on Runway 02L (left traffic). I had completed an entire lap in the pattern with a student who made position calls on every leg of the pattern; clearly articulating our positions and intents. Other planes had acknowledged our transmissions; verifying that our radio was functional and could be heard clearly by other aircraft. Two other aircraft were ahead of me in the pattern landing on 02L. At the time of this event; winds on the surface were 300 at 2 knots; visibility was +10 SM; and skies were clear. On our second lap in the pattern; after we had entered the base leg; an unidentified pilot called on the CTAF; saying he was looking to join and asking which runway we were landing on. I immediately replied that multiple planes were established in the pattern for 02L. He responded 'Copy that entering downwind for Runway 20 L'. I promptly explained two more times over the radio that we were landing on 02L; and that it was left traffic. As I turned on final for 02 L he radioed that he was turning right base for 20 L. I again told him that we were on final for 02 L to which he responded sarcastically 'Sounds like 20 to me'. At this time; I did not feel that I was in a safe position to go around as he was cutting directly in front of the path I would have to take. I quickly landed; and as I did so; I could see a plane lined up for final on the opposite end of the runway. I immediately exited the runway at the nearest taxiway. Approximately 5 seconds after I cleared the runway a small plane landed on 20 R. Several other unidentified pilots began congratulating him for his landing in what appeared to be a joking manner. I calmly explained that he had landed against the traffic pattern; and he immediately responded 'Well if you don't like it; you should just go back to ZZZ'; and 'that's what you get when you fly a CTAF'. Another pilot also tried to explained that what he did was dangerous; and several other unidentified people on the radio began mocking him over the radio; and telling him to leave the area.Although I have often seen reckless and dangerous flying in the vicinity of Birchwood Airport; I have never witnessed such a deliberate and hazardous act as intentionally flying and landing against the traffic pattern. I hope that whoever finds this report understands that pilots flying out Birchwood airport have developed extremely reckless and dangerous behavior; which merits significant concern.
