Synopsis

B737 flight crew reported a tire failed during landing possibly due to FOD on the runway.

Narrative

During taxi in after landing XXR in ZZZ; approximately 5 min after landing and crossing RWY XXL; we turned onto [Taxiway] 1 and heard and felt a loud bang followed by what felt like a flat tire. We came to a stop approx 100 yards after the sound and notified ground control that we may have a flat and requested operations to come take a look. Operations confirmed that both left main tires were in fact flat; which began our coordination with operations; maintenance and the airport to deplane everyone and get the tires replaced. The landing and rollout was uneventful. There was a crosswind but plane was not side loaded; and touchdown was mostly smooth with normal braking after autobrake (3) was disengaged. The taxi in was normal speed and braking; on centerline the entire time. Once turned on taxiway 1 it felt as if we hit something and the plane jolted accompanied with a loud bang; followed by the flat tire feel. Later this was confirmed by maintenance that the 2nd tire may have failed under the weight of the aircraft and that is was we felt. According to maintenance a puncture on the first tire indicated we may have ran over something but nothing was found by operations on the taxiway or runway. All tires were in good condition during pre-flight in ZZZ1. Through flight attendant and ops coordination; air stairs were connected and passengers were deplaned safely into busses. Maintenance replaced both tires on the taxiway and we (the crew) were shuttled to the terminal to continue operation and left the plane in the hands of maintenance.

Second reporter narrative

After landing on runway XXR and during the taxi to the gate; we heard a loud noise from outside the aircraft. Soon after; a noticeable wobble was felt from inside the aircraft. As Captain; I decided to stop the aircraft on the taxiway and determine the problem. ATC; Maintenance ; and ZZZ were notified; and airport operations inspected the outside of our aircraft. We were notified that both of our left main gear tires have failed.ZZZ operations determined the correct course of action was to remain on the taxiway and have the customers removed via busses. The flight attendants and customers were briefed by the captain of the process; and the removal of the passengers occurred without further incidence. Flight operations was notified; and a log book entry was made. Dispatch was notified of correct on and in times. Weather at the time was VFR; and no tire overspeed or heavy braking existed during touchdown or landing.A debrief with maintenance occurred; and they felt that we must have encountered FOD on the runway; or taxiway. At no time was the aircraft operated off the centerline of either the runway or taxiways. A deep gash was found in the middle of the #2 tire; which led to the failure of both tires #2 & #1. (according to maintenance)The crew was then deplaned; and bussed to the terminal without further delay.
