Synopsis

Technician explains reasoning for maintenance procedure.

Narrative

I was assigned an out of service aircraft in ZZZ for loss of green hydraulic system and manual gear extension. Maintenance called back confirming the loss of green hydraulic system and mentioned there was a puddle of hyd fluid near the main wheel wells. I instructed him not to disturb the L/G systems until the landing gear system was put back to normal mode. I sent him the AMM (Aircraft Maintenance Manual) and went over the procedure with him while he reset the L/G system to normal per the AMM. he started to troubleshoot the green hydraulic system leak & found the line to the RH MLG door actuator leaking. I ordered part and maintenance control was requested to replace line. The Aircraft was returned to service. I was off shift later. Cause: I wanted to have the landing gear system reset back to normal per the AMM as soon as possible to prevent the landing gear system being disturbed during troubleshooting of the hydraulic leak and causing the L/G system to need rigging or a gear swing to return it to normal after the manual gear extension.Suggestions: The contract mechanic reset the landing gear to normal. Maintenance Control arrived at the aircraft a day later to install the new line; service; and leak check the green hydraulic system. I should have had the contract mechanic sign for the reset of the landing gear system to normal when he accomplished the procedure. Better communication between the contract maintenance and Maintenance Control. Perhaps splitting the Log book discrepancy into two Mics. One for the loss of the Green Hydraulic system; and the other for the manual landing gear extension.
