Synopsis

Air carrier Flight Attendant reported slide pack cover had gap causing concern about possible slide deployment. Maintenance was called; escape slide did not deploy and flight continued.

Narrative

1R slide pack cover was more than 1 inch gap from the door & bolts were bulging. I was concerned something could fall into the slide pack & damage the slide/cause it to implode in the cabin. My hand could fit in the gap for reference.I notified purser; who notified cockpit... captain advised it was fine. Purser & I agreed we'd never seen a slide pack cover with such a large gap. We requested Maintenance (MX). MX came; glanced at the door (it was open for catering; so the inspection was not thorough). Captain also intervened & told MX he thought the door was fine. MX appeared to take his word & didn't investigate it further. Captain suggested I switch positions so I didn't have to handle the door. The purser offered to take me off the trip by saying 'I felt unsafe.' I can't afford a mistrip in my work history (which is a safety hazard in itself; fear of discipline shouldn't hinder crew from safety concerns).Another FA armed & disarmed my door due to my concern. All crew agreed the gap on the door looked concerning.
