Super tug driver reported a conflict with an aircraft under tow requiring evasive action to avoid a possible collision.
Synopsis
Super tug driver reported a conflict with an aircraft under tow requiring evasive action to avoid a possible collision.
Narrative
After towing Aircraft X from hardstand XX to gate XY; we held the aircraft prior to the ASR (Airport Service Road) outside of gate XY awaiting wing walkers. Air carrier X A320 was being pushed off of gate XZ along taxi lane 1. The aircraft was being 'pushed' not towed. ATC ground control called and asked if our aircraft under tow was ready to be parked at gate XY. I advised that we were waiting for wing walkers to complete the tow. The air carrier X tractor driver called ground control and asked if he could continue because he was stopped at gate XA. Ground asked if he was able to move to continue to his gate. Air carrier X tractor driver acknowledged that he was ready to continue. Conditions at the time on the ramp were dark and foggy. ATC tower could not see both aircraft. Air carrier X started to move; and his aircraft was going to make imminent contact with our aircraft tail with its left-wing tip. I had to take evasive action by driving forward with our super tug tractor into the gate area to avoid a collision.
