Light sport aircraft pilots reported a near collision in the run up pad with another aircraft.
Synopsis
Light sport aircraft pilots reported a near collision in the run up pad with another aircraft.
Narrative
Aircraft X was taxiing to runup area via Charlie for a training flight. At the runup pad there was two aircraft in position on the compass rose. Aircraft X taxied around these two airplanes to line up going north on Alpha to wait; in order to allow enough space for one of the aircraft to maneuver to the runway. One of the aircraft taxied onto the runway and took off leaving a space for Aircraft X to taxi into their spot in the runup area. Aircraft X started to advance into that position by crossing over the Runway 15 entryway area (just outside of A1) Aircraft Y started to taxi from taxiway C onto the transition area between C and A. Aircraft X 's tail was still over the taxiway centerline moving onto the compass rose; and Aircraft Y continued to advance towards our position. The instructor of Aircraft X took controls and made an evasive action to avoid collision; however if evasive action were not taken from our viewpoint the propeller of Aircraft Y may have struck Aircraft X 's tail. Aircraft Y continued to make various 360 degree turns on the runup pad; which both Aircraft X and the passenger sitting in Aircraft X watched while unmoving. Aircraft X continued runup as normal and was able to complete the rest of the training flight as did Aircraft Y.
