Air carrier flight crew reported push crew coming to an abrupt stop during push back due to conflicting traffic. Flight resumed push back.
Synopsis
Air carrier flight crew reported push crew coming to an abrupt stop during push back due to conflicting traffic. Flight resumed push back.
Narrative
We called ramp control for push clearance from gate XX and were told to hold position due to other aircraft pushing. We were finally cleared to push on the green line to exit spot XX. During the pushback; the aircraft came to an abrupt stop and the tug driver informed us that Aircraft Y was coming around the corner from the spot XY entrance loop and presented a safety hazard with a continued pushback. There was no call from ramp control either telling Aircraft Y crew to give way or alerting us to Aircraft Y coming around the corner. We held position until Aircraft Y had passed before resumption of the pushback. As Aircraft Y was passing our tail; ramp control called and apologized for not alerting us to the hazard. We resumed the pushback without further incident. We were contacted by the ZZZ1 flight office (Not the union as stated below. This was no an option.) Inquiring about an email they had received from ZZZ personnel about the event and were advised to submit an report regarding the incident even though we were not at fault. Cause: Lack of communication/direction from ramp control to either aircraft.
Second reporter narrative
Ramp cleared us for pushback. Ground crew pushed then stopped and asked if we were cleared because another aircraft was moving behind us. We said we were cleared; but hold anyway. Ramp then apologized for not notifying us of the other aircraft. Other aircraft passed us and we continued pushback without incident. Cause: Keep aware; monitor traffic.
