Part 107 UAS pilot reported accidentally conducting a UAS flight in controlled airspace without LAANC authorization.
Synopsis
Part 107 UAS pilot reported accidentally conducting a UAS flight in controlled airspace without LAANC authorization.
Narrative
On Day 0 at approximately XA:17 PM; I was the Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) operating in the vicinity of Location X. I was flying a DJI Mavic 3 Classic in Class D airspace under the 100-foot altitude threshold. Weather conditions were clear with daytime visibility. The total flight duration was under 10 minutes. The purpose of the flight was to capture a few photos of the golf course. Upon landing; I realized I had made a human error and accidentally forgot to obtain LAANC authorization prior to the flight. I normally complete my authorizations an hour before takeoff; as I do not always have a guaranteed time of arrival the night before. This was an honest mistake and serves as an important reminder for me to slow down; follow my checklist; and double-check all requirements before takeoff. I sincerely apologize for this error and am grateful for the opportunity to operate in Class D airspace. I recognize my responsibility to ensure all authorizations are completed in a timely manner to maintain safety for myself and the surrounding community.
NASA callback
Reporter stated they forgot to file for LAANC because they usually file in the morning but weren't sure what time they would be flying so they delayed filing for LAANC and forgot entirely.
