Synopsis
RV-8 pilot reported a collision during final approach with an object they believed to be a UAS. Upon landing; damage was found on the aircraft.
Narrative
During normal VFR flight operations on Day 0; while operating an Experimental Amateur-Built RV-8; I experienced what is believed to have been an in-flight contact with an unknown airborne object. No traffic advisory or visual contact with a UAS or other aircraft was observed prior to or immediately following the event. The aircraft remained fully controllable; with no abnormal flight characteristics; vibrations; or system anomalies noted. A normal landing was conducted without incident.During post-flight inspection; localized impact damage was discovered on the aircraft consistent with contact from a small; lightweight airborne object. The damage appears cosmetic in nature; however; the aircraft was removed from service for further inspection.Based on the size; nature; and location of the damage; contact with a small plastic unmanned aircraft system (UAS/drone) is considered possible; though no definitive identification could be made.No emergency was declared; and no ATC notification was made at the time; as there was no immediate hazard or loss of control.
