Synopsis
Government UAS pilot reported conducting a flight without LAANC authorization. The pilot requested authorization on a LAANC app but it malfunctioned and the request did not get processed; which was not realized until after the flight.
Narrative
I am currently a police officer with the police department; and we had a hot pursuit of 2 individuals who were armed and ran into the wooded area approximately 2.6 nautical miles from the airport. I attempted to use the Aloft air control app to place a LAANC request to fly in the area. It was auto approval up to 100 ft for the area. The request was believed to be submitted however upon checking the app had glitched and was not submitted; attempted to submit the request again and it went through. We attempted to contact the Special Governmental Interest (SGI) number for the incident; however; the phone went to voicemail. I wanted this incident to be noted. It should also be noted that we stayed under the tree line and only reached approximately 63 ft. I did not go any higher and the flight lasted only approximately 10 mins. There was also no collision with any aircraft; nor were we close to any aircraft. I had approximately 3 people in the crew with two people acting as visual observers for the area.
NASA callback
Reporter stated they only realized after the flight had ended that the LAANC authorization did not go through.
