TWR ASKED FOR A RPT WHEN ON A 3 MI FINAL. FLC FORGOT.
Narrative
WHILE ON A PRACTICE ILS APCH TWR REQUESTED A 3 NM FINAL RPT. I WAS VERY BUSY CONDUCTING APCH CHKS AND BEFORE LNDG CHKLISTS AS WELL AS FLYING AN ILS APCH UNDER SIMULATED IFR CONDITIONS. THE PNF WAS MONITORING THE ACFT POS AND LOOKING FOR VFR TFC. AT APPROX 2 MI FROM APA; THE TWR RPTED THAT WE WERE 2 MI FROM APA; IT WAS AT THIS TIME WE WERE AWARE OF OUR MISSED POS RPT. BOTH PLTS FORGOT TO CALL THE TWR AT 3 MI FROM LNDG. THIS POS RPT WAS REQUESTED BY THE TWR EVEN THOUGH WE WERE VFR AND IN SIGHT BY THE TWR. APA TWR IS EQUIPPED WITH SURVEILLANCE RADAR - - THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN OUR POS AT ALL TIMES. WE ALSO USED DEN APCH CTL FOR RADAR VECTORS TO THE FINAL APCH FIX. DEN APCH SHOULD HAVE BRIEFED APA TWR OF OUR POS AND OUR MISSED APCH INSTRUCTIONS. WE ALSO TALKED WITH APA TWR OVER CASSIE OM; APPROX 90 SECONDS PRIOR TO OUR REQUESTED 3 MI RPT. THIS TYPE OF REQUEST FROM APA TWR DOES NOTHING BUT INCREASE PLT WORKLOAD AT A VERY BUSY TIME; WHICH INCREASES THE CHANCE FOR FURTHER PROBS DURING THE MOST CRITICAL TIME OF FLT.
