WHILE FLYING THE SALT LAKE 3 DEP WE SPENT OUR TIME LOOKING AT THE XING ALT ONCE PAST THE VOR; AND MISSED THAT ACFT ON EASTERLY RTES MUST WAIT FOR RADAR VECTORS OUT OF 11000 FT DUE TO MOUNTAINS E. AFTER APPROX A 45 DEG E TO TURN TO OUR FILED RTE THE CTLR ADVISED AND WE TURNED BACK N TO CONTINUE SID. WOULD LIKE TO SEE BOLD PRINT OF SOME SORT TO MAKE THE REMARK ABOUT RADAR E OUT OF 11000 FT MSL MORE NOTICEABLE. THE CTLR SAID THERE WAS NO PROB. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 235584: RWYS 32 AND 34L/R SECTION: FLY A 340 DEG HDG; MAINTAIN 8000 FT. ACFT FILED COURSES 331 DEGS CLOCKWISE THROUGH 109 DEGS; CROSS 7.5 DME ARC N OF SLC VOR AT 8000 FT; THENCE: EXPECT VECTORS TO ASSIGNED RTE OF FLT. EXPECT CLRNC TO FILED ALT 10 MINS AFTER DEP. AS I LOOKED AT THIS I MISTAKENLY THOUGHT THAT AFTER 8000 FT N OF THE VORTAC WITHIN 7.5 DME I WAS CLRED TO TURN ON COURSE BECAUSE OF THE CLRNC STATING AFTER THE 'SID' AND 8000 FT WE WERE CLRED AS FILED. HOWEVER; I OVERLOOKED SECTION A SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS. ALSO AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SID IS THE STATEMENT: THIS IS A RADAR VECTOR DEP TO ASSIGNED ALT. I FELT A BIT FATIGUED AT THE TIME. WE ALSO HAD LATE ARRIVING FREIGHT. TO SAY THE LEAST THERE WAS A LOT OF ACTIVITY IN THE COCKPIT.
