ACR FLT X FROM DTW-GLA FILED RTE NAT 'U' BABAN; UN 54 MAC DIRECT INKIP DIRECT GLA. WHEN OVER KORIB (54 DEGS 13.0 N 13 DEGS W) SHANNON CTL 132.15 CLRED US TO NIPIT INTXN. UNABLE TO FIND NIPIT ON OUR CHARTS; WE ASKED FOR THE COORDINATES. SHANNON CTL DID NOT HAVE THE COORDINATES FOR US; SO I ASKED FOR RADAR VECTORS AND THEY GAVE US A HDG TO NIPIT. ACR Y GAVE US THE COORDINATES OF NIPIT (N 55 DEGS 27.1 - W 8 DEGS 24.2). WE PLACED THEM IN THE INS AND WENT DIRECT. WE WERE SWITCHED TO SCOTTISH CTL. HE INDICATED THAT WE WERE OFF COURSE ABOUT 40 DEGS AND DSNDED US TO FL350 FROM FL370. HE ASKED WHAT SEQUENCE OF EVENTS THAT PUT US IN THAT POS? WE STATED THE ABOVE HAPPENED. AFTER LNDG WE MET ACR STATION MGR OF GLA AND BRIEFED HIM TO WHAT HAPPENED. HE CALLED SCOTTISH CTL AND SORTED OUT THE EVENTS. HE INDICATED A VIOLATION WOULD BE PLACED ON SHANNON CTL FOR GIVING US A CLRNC TO A POS AND NOT SUPPLYING US WITH THE COORDINATES. WHILE IN ACR OFFICE WE WERE ABLE TO FIND NIPIT INTXN (N 54 DEGS 27.1 W 8 DEGS 24.2). THE N COORDINATE WE RECEIVED FROM ACR Y WAS WRONG. IF WE FOLLOWED OUR FLT PLAN THE ABOVE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: 'NIPIT' IS A NEW; NON RPTING FIX NEAR THE W COAST OF IRELAND THAT THE RPTR HAD NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE. HE EITHER WROTE DOWN THE N COORDINATE WRONG; OR IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM WRONG. THE BODY TIME FOR THIS CREW WAS VERY EARLY MORNING; AND NO ONE COULD FIND THE FIX. THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN ANY ACTION AGAINST THE CREW BY THE FAA. THERE WAS ANOTHER ACR ACFT IN THE VICINITY WBOUND; BUT THERE WAS NOT YET ANY LOSS OF SEPARATION WHEN RADAR CONTACT WAS ESTABLISHED.
