AN ACR LGT LANDED ENRTE BECAUSE OF AN OIL FILTER BYPASS ON 1 OF THE ENGS. FUEL WAS DUMPED.

Narrative

DAY VFR FL310 APPROX PM55 EST 230 NM NW OF ATLANTA VOR. CAPT NOTICED #3 ENG OIL FILTER BYPASS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. #3 ENG THROTTLE WAS SLOWLY RETARDED TO IDLE. #3 OIL FILTER BYPASS LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE JUMP SEAT WAS OCCUPIED BY A QUALIFIED FO WHO VOLUNTEERED TO COORDINATE COM WITH ATLANTA OPS; ADVISING THEM OF OUR PROB AND INTENTION TO DIVERT TO ATL. THE SIT WAS ALSO COORDINATED WITH AN ATLANTA MAINT REPRESENTATIVE. CAPT AND SO CONTINUED TO WORK THE ABNORMAL WHILE I FLEW THE ACFT AND COMMUNICATED WITH ATC. CAPT OPTED TO PROCEED DIRECT ATL AND REQUESTED A DSCNT INTO ATL FOR A PRECAUTIONARY LNDG. APPROX 9000 LBS OF FUEL WAS DUMPED 85 NM N OF ATL AT 22000 FT. SINCE ALL OTHER ENG INDICATIONS ON #3 ENG WERE NORMAL; #3 ENG WAS LEFT AT IDLE. AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG AND ROLLOUT WAS COMPLETED AT ATL. ACFT AND MAINT CHANGED OUT THE OIL FILTER. ACFT WAS LATE GND TURNED WITH NO RECURRENCE OF THE ENG OIL FILTER BYPASS LIGHT. THE FLT WAS LATER FERRIED TO HOUSTON (NO PAX OR FLT ATTENDANTS) THE LIGHT DID NOT REOCCUR.
