Narrative

LANDED KAUS. RWY 31L WAS WET FROM EARLIER STORM. DID NOT MAKE RWY 17 TURNOFF SO ROLLED TO END OF RWY 31L. AT PROPER TAXI SPD; MADE L 135 DEG TURN ONTO TXWY H; WHICH IS VERY NARROW. EVIDENTLY L 2 TIRES ON L MAIN TRUCK LEFT TXWY BY APPROX 2 FT INTO GRASS AREA. R 2 TIRES L MAIN TRUCK REMAINED ON TXWY. CREW FELT NO EXCURSION. POST-FLT INSPECTION REVEALED NO DIRT OR DAMAGE. NEXT MORNING STATION PERSONNEL FOUND DIRT/MUD ON L TIRES AND RPTED SAME. NO DAMAGE TO ACFT AND IT DEPARTED ON SCHEDULE. CAPT CALLED BY CHIEF PLT ; DFW AS TO WHAT HAD HAPPENED. CHK AIRMAN SENT TO LINE-CHK CAPT; AUS-DFW. CAPT AND CHK AIRMAN PERSONALLY INSPECTED EXCURSION AREA. TIRE TRACKS 2 FT FROM TXWY INDEED SHOWED MINOR EXCURSION. CAPT RPTED THIS INCIDENT TO DISPATCH AND ISSUED PLT ALERT TO ALL ACFT LNDG AUS AND EXITING END OF 31L. SUGGESTED PULLING R OF CTRLINE BEFORE INITIATING TURN ONTO TXWY 'H' TO PRECLUDE ANY SIMILAR INCIDENTS. THIS TXWY; WITH 135 DEG TURN; ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT; IS UNSUITABLE FOR WDB TYPE ACFT. ARPT NEEDS TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION AND ALSO NOTAM THIS EXIT FROM RWY 31L. REBUILDING THIS AREA IS IN ORDER. ALSO; NOTE NEEDS TO BE MADE ON APPROPRIATE ARPT PAGE. PARTICULARLY MISLEADING AT NIGHT AS TO AREA OF SAFE TURN CAPABILITY; ESPECIALLY FOR WDB TYPE ACFT.
