HDG TRACK DEV ON DEP.

Narrative

FLT PLAN/CLRNC WAS RIC V260 HPW ARGAZ 3 KRDW. WHEN TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF; CLRNC WAS ISSUED TO DIRECT HPW; FLT PLAN RTE. CAPT MADE TKOF. AT 1000 AGL; CAPT CALLED FOR CLB PWR; VNAV; FLAPS UP. CLEANUP WAS ACCOMPLISHED; HOWEVER; UPON SELECTING THE FMS TO DIRECT HPW; I SELECTED THE DUFFI INTXN; WHICH WAS THE NEXT WAYPOINT AFTER HPW ON THE ARGAZ 3 ARR. UPON SELECTING NAV ON THE FLT GUIDANCE PANEL; THE FLT DIRECTORS COMMANDED A R TURN TO DIRECT DUFFI. THE CAPT COMMENCED A R TURN TO DIRECT DUFFI. ABOUT 10 SECONDS AFTER THE R TURN WAS INITIATED; WE BOTH REALIZED WE TURNED THE WRONG WAY. I INITIALLY COULD NOT GET HPW TO BE SELECTED ON THE FMS; SO I INITIATED A HDG BACK TO THE L TOWARDS HPW. THE CAPT REVERSED THE TURN. AT THAT TIME; DEP CALLED US AND ASKED US IF WE WERE TURNING R. WE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT AND STATED WE WERE CORRECTING BACK TO A L TURN TO HPW. DEP THEN SAID ROLL OUT ON PRESENT HDG FOR VECTORS TO THE ARR. WE STATED THAT OUR HDG WOULD BE 170 DEGS. DEP THEN ASKED FOR REASON FOR R TURN. WE RESPONDED THAT WE SELECTED THE WRONG BUTTON ON THE FMS CAUSING A COMMANDED R TURN.
