A WDB ACR GOT ONE OF ITS MAIN GEAR TRUCKS OFF OF THE PAVEMENT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO USE ALL OF THE RWY FOR A MAX GROSS TKOF.
Narrative
CAPT WAS TAXIING FOR TKOF RWY 27 CDG. WE WERE AT MAX GROSS WT AND NEEDED ALL THE RWY; SO CAPT TURNED R AT POINT 1 (SEE GRAPHIC). IF TURN IS NOT MADE; RWY LENGTH IS SHORTENED DUE TO CONFIGN OF INTXN. R TRUCK LEFT PAVEMENT AND SANK INTO DIRT. BECAUSE THE DIRT AREA WAS ON MY SIDE; I WAS AWARE THAT HE WAS TURNING A LITTLE CLOSER THAN I HAD SEEN OTHER CAPTS DOING IT. BUT I THOUGHT THAT THE GEAR WAS POSITIONED TO STAY ON PAVEMENT SO DID NOT OVERRIDE THE BRAKES OR ISSUE ANY WARNING. I BELIEVE THE PROB OCCURRED BECAUSE: 1) THE CAPT WAS NOT IN VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE SMALL DIRT AREA (HIS VIEW WAS OF LOTS OF CONCRETE IN FRONT AND TO BOTH SIDES DUE TO THE OVERRUN PORTION). 2) I WAS AWARE BUT NOT TRAINED OR EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH CLRNC WE HAD. SUGGESTIONS TO PREVENT RECURRENCE: 1) PAVE TRIANGULAR AREA TO END OF RWY (NOT OVERRUN). 2) PAINT LINE ACROSS RWY AT POINT TXWY INTERSECTS RWY. 3) CHANGE USABLE LENGTH FIGURES OR RWY AND PROVIDE NEW TKOF CHARTS. 4) FORMAL TAXI TRAINING FOR COPLTS.
