WDB ACFT ON ROLLOUT REQUESTED TO HOLD SHORT OF XING RWY. UNABLE.
Narrative
FLT HVY; LHR-EWR; ON WHICH I WAS CAPT; WAS CLRED TO LAND AT EWR ON RWY 4R WITH AN APPROX 5 KT TAILWIND. THE COPLT MADE THE LNDG. OUR ROLLOUT SPD WAS A LITTLE FAST TO EXIT ON THE HIGH SPD TXWY; SO AS I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT FOR TAXIING TO THE GATE OFF THE RWY; I REMOVED REVERSE THRUST ON THE ENGS; USED NO BRAKES AND ALLOWED THE ACFT TO TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD ON RWY 4R TO EXIT THE RWY STRAIGHT AHEAD AT THE END OF THE RWY. AT THE END OF RWY 4R IS AN INTXN WITH RWY 11/29. AS WE APCHED THAT RWY 11/29; THE TWR CTLR ASKED IF WE COULD HOLD SHORT ON RWY 11/29. THE COPLT ANSWERED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE. HOWEVER; I WAS ON THE CTLS TAXIING THE ACFT AND FELT OUR TAXI SPD TOO EXCESSIVE TO STOP SHORT OF RWY 11/29 WITHOUT IT BEING A VERY ABRUPT STOP. THE TWR REQUEST CAME AS WE WERE NO MORE THAN APPROX 200 FT FROM RWY 11/29. WE CONTINUED TO TAXI THROUGH THE RWY 4R 11/29 INTXN. ONCE CLR; TWR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN L AND HOLD SHORT. AT THAT TIME; WE SAW A SMALL TWIN ACFT ON ROLLOUT ON RWY 11. WE DID NOT HEAR THAT ACFT BE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 11. FURTHER; OUR LNDG CLRNC WAS 'CLRED TO LAND RWY 4R;' NOT 'CLRED TO LAND RWY 4R; HOLD SHORT OF RWY 11.' THIS INCIDENT; IN THEORY; POSES A SAFETY HAZARD. HOWEVER; ONCE CLR OF THE RWY 4R 11/29 INTXN; WE SAW THE DISTANCE BTWN US AND THE RWY 11 LNDG TO BE APPROX 3000 FT. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED; ONCE CLRED TO LAND; THE RWY BELONGS TO ME UNTIL I CLR IT. THE ERROR; IF ANY; NEEDS TO BE PINPOINTED; BELONGS WITH THE ATC SYS AND AS USUAL; AT MAJOR ARPTS; AT BUSY TIMES; ATTEMPTING TO POUR 10 LBS INTO A 5 LB BAG.
