SMA OVERSHOT RWY WHEN MAKING A FORCED LNDG BECAUSE OF ENG TROUBLE.
Narrative
I WAS ON A DIRECT FLT FROM LINCOLN; NE; TO WICHITA; 58 MI N OF WICHITA. I GOT A PUFF OF SMOKE IN THE CABIN. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT MY AIR AND HEAT FROM THE ENG AND OPENED MY OVERHEAD VENTS BECAUSE OF NEEDING FRESH AIR. I WAS EXPECTING AN ELECTRICAL PROB BECAUSE THE DAY BEFORE I HAD LANDED; AND WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE; I HAD NOTICED MY ALTERNATOR BREAKER WAS OUT. AFTER A THOROUGH CHK; I FOUND NO REASON FOR THIS. IT WAS RESET. DURING THE INCIDENT I CHKED THE BREAKER. IT WAS IN AND MY GAUGES ALL APPEARED TO BE NORMAL. ON MY SECOND SCAN I NOTICED ZERO OIL PRESSURE WHICH WAS SHORTLY AFTER THE INITIAL SMOKE. MY OIL TEMP WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL OPERATING TEMP BUT STILL BELOW HALF GREEN. MY CYLINDER HEAD TEMP AT THAT TIME WAS WELL ABOVE NORMAL OPERATING TEMP BUT STILL HALF IN THE GREEN. I CONTACTED CTR ON 121.5 SQUAWKING 7700. INFORMED ME TO FLY HDG WBOUND TO MCPHERSON. ARRIVING MCPHERSON MY DECISION TO LAND TOWARDS THE S WAS BECAUSE OF THE OIL REFINERY TO THE S. THIS LNDG WAS MADE DOWNWIND AND EVEN WITH MY STOL KIT; I OVERRAN THE RWY BY APPROX 300 FT. NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME HAS BEEN FOUND AT THIS TIME. THE OIL FILTER WAS LOOSE ON THE INITIAL DISCOVERY AND IS BELIEVED TO BE WHERE THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT.
