Synopsis

AFTER A BOUNCED LNDG AND A FIRM SECOND TOUCHDOWN; WDB SUFFERS LOSS OF BOTH NOSEWHEELS.

Narrative

I WAS CAPT OCCUPYING L SEAT AND AT CTLS. ON ARR LAX; CLRED ILS RWY 24R; WITH ABOUT 18000 LBS OF FUEL REMAINING. A GAR WAS REQUIRED DUE TO VOLUME OF TFC AHEAD TO CLR RWY. DURING GAR #1 TANK LOW FUEL QUANTITY ALERT APPEARED. LATER; A FUEL MANIFOLD DRAIN ANNUNCIATED. TOTAL FUEL ON 2ND APCH WAS 12000 LBS. ON SHORT FINAL; ACFT FELT LIKE IT WAS SINKING; BUT INST CHK INDICATED A STABLE APCH. I ADDED ADDITIONAL THROTTLE AND BACK PRESSURE TO THE CTLS. THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN ON SPD; THE NOSE PITCHED UP AND THE ACFT BECAME AIRBORNE. I ADDED ADDITIONAL PWR AND FORWARD PRESSURE ON THE CTLS TO COUNTER THE PITCH UP. THE SECOND TOUCHDOWN WAS FIRM AND DURING ROLLOUT THE ACFT VIBRATED; BUT WAS CTLABLE WITH BRAKES AND ENG REVERSING. AFTER STOPPING I MADE A PA TO THE CREW AND PAX TO REMAIN IN THEIR SEATS AND AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. I REQUESTED ASSISTANCE FROM THE TWR. THE PAX AND CREW DEPLANED THROUGH STAIRS AND WERE MOVED BY BUSSES. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED ON THE RWY AND THE FIRE CREW INFORMED US THAT THE 2 NOSEWHEELS WERE MISSING FROM THE ACFT. AN EXAMINATION OF THE ACFT SHOWED DEBRIS DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF ACFT.
