CAPT OF MLG ACR ACFT INADVERTENTLY TAXIED ONTO THE WRONG TXWY DURING TAXI TO THE TERMINAL DUE TO THE LACK OF ARPT TXWY MARKINGS.
Narrative
WE LANDED ON RWY 3 AT CHS (RWY 33 AND RWY 15 CLOSED). NIGHT OP. EXITED RWY 3 ON TXWY 1. TXWY A WAS CLOSED JUST BEYOND (S) OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE INTXN OF TXWY 2 AND TXWY A. CHS GND DIRECTED US TO TAXI VIA TXWYS 2; 3; AND A; TO THE CHS TERMINAL. DUE TO VERY POOR OR NON EXISTENT TXWY MARKINGS NEAR THE INTXNS OF TXWYS 1 AND 2 WITH A; WE TAXIED ON TXWY 1 INSTEAD OF TXWY 2 AND ENDED UP NEAR THE GA TERMINAL. BECAUSE OF A FENCE ERECTED OVER PART OF THE GA RAMP; WE HAD TO TAKE THE FIRST R TURN OFF OF TXWY 1 BACK TO TXWY 2. AT THAT POINT THE CHS GND CTLR APOLOGIZED TO US AND SAID THAT NUMEROUS ACR PLTS HAD DONE WHAT WE HAD JUST DONE. HE MENTIONED THE LACK OF ADEQUATE TXWY MARKINGS AS THE CAUSE. WHILE MAKING THE R TURN FROM TXWY 1 TO TXWY 2; OUR R MAIN GEAR RAN OVER WHAT I THINK WAS A DEPRESSION IN THE PAVEMENT. AT THAT POINT I DECIDED TO STOP THE ACFT AND FIND OUT WHAT WAS BEHIND US AT THE GA RAMP BEFORE ADDING PWR TO CONTINUE THE TAXI. CHS GND ADVISED NOTHING BEHIND; SO I ADDED PWR AND AT ABOUT 1.3 EPR THE ACFT MOVED OUT OF THE DEPRESSION AND WE CONTINUED ONTO THE GATE. THIS PROB CAN BE AVOIDED BY SIMPLY PUTTING UP MORE TXWY SIGNS AND ALSO HAVE CHS GND GIVE SOME ADDITIONAL ADVISORIES TO ACFT TAXIING IN THE VICINITY DESCRIBED ABOVE.
