DURING COMMERCIAL PLT CHK RIDE; RPTR FAILS TO HEAR CLRNC NOT TO MAKE A TOUCH AND GO; BUT DOES SO.
Narrative
TWR CLRED ME TO LAND; I HAD REQUESTED TOUCH-AND-GO. TWR SOMETIMES WOULD GET BUSY AND FORGET TO CLR ME; SO I WOULD IN THE PAST REQUEST IF THEY CLRED ME; OR PERHAPS THEY HAD CLRED ME AND I DID NOT RECALL. ANYWAY; THIS WAS PART OF MY COMMERCIAL CHK RIDE SO I REALLY LISTENED FOR THE CLRNC (THE CLR WORD) AND REPEATED IT. HOWEVER; IT DID NOT SINK IN THAT I WAS NOT CLRED FOR A TOUCH-AND-GO. AS I ROTATED; THE FLT EXAMINER CORRECTED ME; BUT AT THAT POINT; I FELT BEYOND THE 'CHANGE YOUR MIND' AND TOOK OFF. THE TWR THEN INFORMED ME OF MY ERROR AND BECAME VERY NASTY TO ME AND TOLD ME MY XPONDER WASN'T WORKING AND I HAD TO LAND WHICH THEY HAD NOT INFORMED ME OF EARLIER. THE FAULT WAS MINE ENTIRELY; PERHAPS FOR BEING SO ATTENTIVE TO BEING ON TOP OF EVERYTHING FOR THE CHK RIDE; I LISTENED BUT DID NOT HEAR. THE TWR HAD ALSO NEVER REFUSED A REQUEST WITHOUT STATING 'UNABLE TO ALLOW TOUCH-AND-GO; CLR TO LAND.' ALSO HAD I THOUGHT OF WHAT RWY I WAS ON; I WOULD HAVE KNOWN I COULD STOP WHEN EXAMINER MENTIONED IT; BUT I'M NOT SURE I WOULD ALWAYS CHOOSE TO ABORT A TKOF AT THAT POINT WITHOUT AN EMER. BOTH IN DRIVING AND FLYING I FIND A CERTAIN POINT WHERE IT IS SAFER TO 'MISS A TURN' THAN RUSH THE RIGHT WAY.
