Narrative
I DEPARTED GILLETTE; WY; VFR AND ENCOUNTERED IFR. I FILED WITH CTR AND WAS GIVEN MY CLRNC WITH 8000 FT FOR ALT. LATER; I WAS GIVEN 10000 FT BUT I ENCOUNTERED ICE AND AFTER 1 MIN I WAS CLRED BACK TO 8000 FT BUT VECTORED OFF COURSE TO THE E BECAUSE OF TFC. AGAIN; AROUND DENVER; I WAS VECTORED OFF COURSE BECAUSE OF TFC. I PLANNED A REFUELING STOP AT LA JUANTA BUT POOR WX; LOW CEILING AND POSSIBLE FOG PREVENTED A LNDG THERE. I CONTINUED TO TUCUMCARI BUT I EXHAUSTED MY FUEL SUPPLY 5 MI NE AND LANDED IN A WHEAT FIELD. I CARRIED FUEL BACK TO THE PLANE; NOTIFIED THE NM HWY PATROL; THE FSS AT THE ARPT; FSS IN ABQ; NM. I CARRIED MY 4 PAX AND LUGGAGE TO THE ARPT AND PICKED THEM UP THERE AND REFUELED; THEN CAME HOME TO 31F IN SEMINOLE; TX. THERE IS APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT LNDG GEAR SO I DID NOT RETRACT THE GEAR. I CAME ON HOME; WHEELS DOWN; AND PLAN TO FERRY THE PLANE TO BROWNFIELD; TX; TOMORROW FOR REPAIRS. BETTER PLANNING ON MY PART COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. ATC IS IN NO WAY TO BLAME. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: RPTR STATED THAT THE FAA HAS THREATENED VIOLATION ACTION FOR OP OF THE ACFT IN AN UNAIRWORTHY CONDITION SINCE IT WAS DAMAGED DURING THE FORCED LNDG AND NO FERRY PERMIT WAS ISSUED FOR THE FLT.
