CAPT OF AN ACR LGT ACFT FAILED TO PROPERLY NOTIFY THE FLT ATTENDANTS OF LNDG WARNING FOR STORING THE SVC CARTS RESULTING IN SOME NOT SECURED DURING LNDG. PUSHED WRONG BUTTON.
Narrative
WHILE ACTING AS FO OF PIT-DCA FLT ON MAY/XX/93; CLRED BY ATC TO DSND BELOW 10000 FT MSL (I.E.; CROSS AML AT 8000 FT). I INSTRUCTED THE CAPT; THEN ACTING AS PNF; TO CALL THE FLT ATTENDANTS 'OUT OF 10000 FT.' HE STATED HE WAS OFF AND WOULD RPT BACK ON (WITH ME). HE RETURNED AND REPLIED HE TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANTS TO PREPARE FOR ARR. (AS REQUIRED BY COMPANY AND FAA REGS.) THEN JUST PRIOR TO GEAR EXTENSION I COMMANDED A 3 BELL SIGNAL TO THE CABIN TO ALERT THE FLT ATTENDANTS CLRED TO LAND (AS PER COMPANY OPS). THE CAPT REPLIED AND PUSHED THE BUTTONS ON THE OVERHEAD PANEL. ON LNDG; THE FLT ATTENDANTS HAD NOT STORED A GALLEY CART AND ARTICLES WERE STREWN ABOUT THE CABIN. WHEN WE GOT TO THE GATE; THE FLT ATTENDANT IN THE AFT SECTION CALLED THE COCKPIT TO TELL OF THE MISHAP. I ASKED THE CAPT IF HE HAD GIVEN THE 3 BELL SIGNAL. HE REPLIED POSITIVELY. ON THE LGT THERE ARE 3 BUTTONS: FORWARD; MID AND AFT. FORWARD AND AFT ARE NORMALLY USED. (FLT ATTENDANTS ARE SEATED FORWARD AND AFT; NOT IN THE 'MID' SECTION.) THE CAPT SAID HE PUSHED THE MID BUTTON. NO FLT ATTENDANT WOULD HAVE HEARD THIS. I WAS FLYING AND DID NOT GET INVOLVED WITH TAKING MY EYES FROM OUTSIDE THE AIRPLANE. I GAVE THE CAPT A LESSON IN BUTTON PUSHING.
