FERRY FLT MAY NOT HAVE MET AIRWORTHINESS STANDARDS. FAA NOT HAPPY WITH IT.
Narrative
MET BY FAA SAFETY INSPECTOR UPON ARR AT DFW FOR ROUTINE RAMP CHK. AT THIS TIME INSPECTOR BROUGHT TO MY ATTN POSSIBLE MAINT ITEM. THIS ITEM WAS A SMALL CRACK IN THE L HAND PROP SPINNER. CONFERRED WITH CHIEF PLT AND MAINT PERSONNEL TO DETERMINE IF THIS WAS A WRITE-UP ITEM (I.E.; IN AN INOPERABLE CONDITION). IN MY OPINION IT WAS NOT; AND THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY MAINT PERSONNEL. ACFT WAS THEN FLOWN BY ME TO ARLINGTON; TX (F54) SO MAINT PERSONNEL COULD REMOVE THE SPINNER TO PREVENT FURTHER CRACKING. THE FOLLOWING NIGHT I WAS INFORMED BY SAFETY INSPECTOR AT DFW THAT THIS WAS POSSIBLY A VIOLATION OF FARS. ALL OPS WERE CONDUCTED WITH SAFETY IN MIND; AND AT NO TIME WAS THE ACFT OPERATED IN A DANGEROUS MANNER. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL NOT FLY ANY ACFT ABOUT WHICH THERE IS ANY MAINT QUESTION UNTIL MAINT PERSONNEL HAVE INSPECTED THE ACFT IN PERSON AND I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT IT IS IN AN OPERABLE CONDITION; THUS AVOIDING ANY QUESTION OF EITHER SAFETY OR LEGALITY. THERE WAS NO INTENT TO VIOLATE ANY FAR. THAT THE FLT WAS LEGAL WAS NOT IN QUESTION IN MY MIND AT THE TIME IT OCCURRED.
