Narrative
WHILE OPERATING AS FLT FROM ATL-DFW; WE LANDED AT DFW ON 35R AND EXITED ON HIGHSPD 2N AND WERE INSTRUCTED BY TWR TO HOLD SHORT OF 35L AT TXWY 21. WE PROCEEDED N ON TXWY L (THE PARALLEL BTWN 35R AND 35L); AND SINCE ANOTHER ACFT WAS HOLDING SHORT OF 35L AT THE 21 INTXN; WE STOPPED FACING NWARD ON TXWY L JUST SHORT OF 21. A FEW MINS LATER; THE ACFT IN FRONT OF US AND WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO CROSS 35L. I APPLIED PWR TO MOVE FORWARD AND STARTED ROLLING SLOWLY. AT THE SAME INSTANT; ACR X FLT APPEARED SUDDENLY FROM OUR R REAR AS HE EXITED 35R ON HIGHSPD 3N. I CAME DOWN HARD ON THE BRAKES AND STOPPED WHILE HE PASSED BY OUR NOSE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPD AND TURNED ON TO TXWY L HDG N. HIS WINGTIP MISSED OUR NOSE BY NO MORE THAN 10-15 FT. HAD I MOVED FORWARD A LITTLE SOONER OR A LITTLE QUICKER; WE VERY POSSIBLY WOULD HAVE COLLIDED. HIS APPEARANCE WAS SO RAPID THAT MY FO HAD NO TIME TO WARN ME BEFORE I SAW THE MLG MYSELF. A REVIEW OF THE TWR TAPE THE NEXT DAY REVEALED THAT MLG HAD BEEN CLRED DURING ROLLOUT TO EXIT 35R AND TAXI TO AND HOLD SHORT OF 35L AT 19. TWR HAD NOT NOTICED THAT HIS USE OF HIGHSPD 3N WOULD PUT HIM ON TXWY L RIGHT IN FRONT OF WHERE I WAS HOLDING SHORT AT 21. TWR THEN CLRED ME TO CROSS 35L WHICH WOULD INVOLVE MY MOVING FORWARD ON TXWY L AND TURNING L AT 21 TO CROSS 35L. FORTUNATELY; I WAS MOVING FORWARD SLOWLY AND SCANNING VISUALLY; BUT MLG'S RAPID APCH FROM BEHIND AND TO OUR R GAVE ME VERY LITTLE REACTION TIME; AND HAD I STARTED TO TURN L; WE WOULD HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM; AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN BLOCKING HIS PATH.
