A RESERVE CAPT OF AN ACR LTT ACFT EXCEEDED THE DUTY TIME IN A 7 DAY PERIOD.

Narrative

INADVERTENTLY WAS ASSIGNED AND I ACCEPTED DUTY TO FLY SCHEDULED FLT ON 7TH DAY WHILE NOT HAVING A 24 HR PERIOD IN THE PREVIOUS 7 CALENDAR DAYS FREE OF DUTY. THE EVENT OCCURRED ON JUL/XX/93. I WAS NOT GIVEN MY JULY SCHEDULE UNTIL THE LAST FEW DAYS OF JUNE. I WAS SCHEDULED TO DEADHEAD ON JUN/XA. THIS DID NOT GO INTO THE CREW SCHEDULING/TRACKING COMPUTER. MOST DEADHEADING DOES NOT. I WAS SCHEDULED TO FLY ON XB; XC; XD; AND XF. ON THE NIGHT OF XG; I WAS ASSIGNED TO FLY A 4.5 HR BLOCK TIME/11:50 DUTY DAY (XG). IT SLIPPED RIGHT PAST ME THAT IT WAS CALENDAR DAY #7 AND THAT I COULD NOT ACCEPT THE ASSIGNMENT. TRUTHFULLY; I WAS VERY TIME DISORIENTED. I HAD FLOWN; OR BEEN ON DUTY 26 OUT OF THE 30 DAYS; FLYING 80 HRS AND DEADHEADING ANOTHER 56 HRS. OF THE 4 DAYS I WAS FREE OF ANY DUTY; I WAS ON JURY DUTY FOR ONE OF THEM. I WAS ON DUTY A TOTAL OF 221 HRS AND 46 MINS DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE; WHICH IS AN AVERAGE OF SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 8 HRS PER DAY FOR 30 DAYS IN JUNE; OR SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 8.5 HRS PER DAY FOR EACH OF THE 26 DAYS I WAS ON DUTY. IT WAS ALL LEGAL UNTIL I FLEW ON THE MORNING OF XG. MY FO COMMENTED; AFTER WE WERE AT CRUISE ALT; 'YOU REALLY DO THINK IT'S THURSDAY; DON'T YOU? DON'T YOU THINK YOU SHOULD GET 24 HRS OFF EVERY 7 DAYS?' I REPLIED; 'TODAY IS DAY #6.' HE BURST MY BUBBLE; 'TODAY IS FRIDAY AND IT IS DAY #7. I THINK YOU NEED TO CALL CREW SCHEDULING WHEN WE GET ON THE GND.' WHEN WE LANDED; I GNDED MYSELF. THE LESSON THAT NEEDS TO BE LEARNED HERE IS THAT THE CURRENT CREW REST FARS ARE TERRIBLE. WHEN AN AIRLINE LIKE MINE IN MEMPHIS; TN; ABUSES THE RULES EXCESSIVELY AND THE THREAT OF DISCIPLINE OR LOSS OF PAY HANGS OVER YOUR HEAD; ONE CAN LET HIS GUARD DOWN AND FIND HIMSELF IN VIOLATION.
