CAPT OF AN LTT ACR ACFT FAILED TO MAKE THE HOLDING PATTERN AS ASSIGNED.
Narrative
WE WERE APCHING THE JAN ARPT FROM THE N AND HAD BEGUN TO DEVIATE AROUND A LARGE AREA OF WX WHILE TRYING TO MAKE OUR WAY TO THE ARPT FOR A SCHEDULED LNDG. WHEN WE WERE ABOUT 10 MI N OF THE ARPT; MODERATE TURB WAS ENCOUNTERED AND WE MADE A TURN BACK TO THE N AWAY FROM THE WX AND REQUESTED TO HOLD. JAN APCH CTL INSTRUCTED US TO HOLD SE AT CLAYS INTXN WHICH WAS THE 21 DME/340 DEG RADIAL FROM JAN VOR. THEY VECTORED US TO THE RADIAL AND WE INTERCEPTED AT 30 DME AND SHOULD HAVE MADE EITHER A PARALLEL OR TEARDROP ENTRY TO HOLD. AS WE NEARED THE FIX; I RESTATED TO THE CAPT THE HOLDING INSTRUCTIONS AND THEN AT THE FIX HE MADE A R TURN AND STARTED OUTBOUND. WE ARE NOW HOLDING NW INSTEAD OF SE. WHEN I STATED THAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HOLD SE; HE REPLIED 'THIS IS THE WAY I'M GOING TO HOLD.' WE WERE TO FLY 10 MI LEGS AND WHEN WE BEGAN THE OUTBOUND LEG THE SECOND TIME; APCH INFORMED WE WERE BEYOND THEIR RADAR AND TO CONTACT ZME. JAN APCH NEVER MENTIONED A CONFLICT BUT I DO KNOW THAT THERE WERE 1 OR 2 OTHER ACFT HOLDING IN THE AREA. WHEN I STATED TO THE CAPT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIX AND THAT'S PROBABLY WHY APCH HANDED US OFF OR WANTED US TO HOLD AS THEY INSTRUCTED; HE CLAIMED WE WOULD BE TOO CLOSE TO THE WX. THE CAPT SHOULD HAVE REQUESTED THE DESIRED HOLD TO HIS LIKING. I SHOULD HAVE INQUIRED WITH ATC IF THERE WOULD BE A PROB HOLDING AS WE DID. TO THIS DAY; I DON'T THINK THE CAPT EVER FELT WE DID ANYTHING WRONG. HE SEEMS TO JUST WANT TO FLY AND LEAVE DETAILS TO OTHERS.
