Synopsis

FLC OF AN LGT ACR ACFT CLBED OFF OF DSCNT ALT IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA.

Narrative

IN LEVEL FLT AT 11000 FT WE GOT A TA WARNING FROM OUR TCASII. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TA WE GOT AN RA WITH A CLB COMMAND. IT HAPPENED SO QUICKLY THAT THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH TIME TO USE THE INFO ON OUR SCREEN TO LOOK OUT THE WINDOW AND HOPEFULLY SPOT THE TFC. NOT ENOUGH TIME BTWN THE TA AND RA THAT IS. AS SOON AS THE CLB COMMAND WAS GIVEN BY THE TCASII MY FO INITIATED A CLB. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME OUR CLB WAS STARTED WE HEARD ZNY TRYING TO SAY SOMETHING TO US BUT MOST OF THEIR XMISSION WAS BLOCKED BY ANOTHER ACFT SPEAKING OVER THEM. THE SECOND ATTEMPT BY ZNY WAS HEARD AND IT WAS INSTRUCTIONS FOR AN IMMEDIATE 20 DEG R TURN. SO NOW WE WERE CLBING OUT OF 11000 FT AND MAKING A R TURN OFF THE YARDLEY 078 DEG RADIAL. BY THE TIME THE TCASII HAD ADVISED WE COULD STOP CLBING AND A SMOOTH PUSHOVER WAS STARTED; WE HAD REACHED AN ALT OF APPROX 11700 FT AND WE WERE A LITTLE S OF THE RADIAL WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON DUE TO THE R TURN. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING ATC'S 20 DEG TURN; I ADVISED THEM THAT WE HAD HAD AN RA AND HAD CLBED TO COMPLY WITH IT. THEY DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE A PROB WITH OUR ALTDEV AND HANDED US OFF TO NEW YORK APCH. WE NEVER HAD THE SUSPECT ACFT IN SIGHT UNTIL AFTER THE CLB WAS STOPPED AND THE OTHER ACFT WAS WELL OFF OUR L WING AND BELOW US.
