AN ACR MLG MADE A GAR BECAUSE OF A MICROBURST IN THE TFC PATTERN.
Narrative
A MICROBURST WAS ENCOUNTERED ON THE DOWNWIND TO RWY 19R AT MCI. WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL WHEN THE MICROBURST WAS ENCOUNTERED. A WINDSHEAR RECOVERY WAS INITIATED. THE ACFT WENT FROM 3000 FT TO 7000 FT MSL IN A SEVERE UPDRAFT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 247995: THE PROB AROSE BECAUSE WE WERE APCHING FROM THE S WITH ALL THE WX TO THE N. ACFT WERE FLYING THROUGH THE WX LNDG ON RWY 19R. WE WANTED TO LAND ON RWY 1L BUT ATC WOULD NOT COMPLY. WE DID NOT WANT TO GO N OF THE FIELD AND HAVE TO FLY BACK THROUGH THE WX WHICH WAS MOVING SE. ACR A MISSED THE APCH STRAIGHT S. APCH CTL SAID THEY RPTED 'STRONG WINDS.' APCH CTL IS NOW RPTING WINDS AT 53 KTS AND ASKING US IF WE WANT TO NOW TRY THE APCH TO RWY 1L SINCE ACR X IS ATTEMPTING THE APCH (THEY MISSED AGAIN). WE DECLINED. WE DID NOT WANT TO FIGHT THE WX AND WENT TO OUR ALTERNATE; ICT; AS DID ACR A AND ACR B. THE ONLY FACTORS THAT SAVED US WAS OUR ALT AT THE TIME OF WIND SHEAR (3000 FT MSL) AND THE CAPT'S QUICK REACTION TO RECOVER FROM THE WIND SHEAR. ACR A'S PROPER TERMINOLOGY OF 'WIND SHEAR' MAY HAVE AIDED US IN MISSING THE APCH SOONER.
