UNABLE TO COPY EGE AWOS BECAUSE OF RF INTERFERENCE FROM FORT COLLINS AWOS.

ABOUT 70 MI E OF EGE I DROPPED OFF FREQ TO OBTAIN AWOS WX AT EGE. PICKED UP GOOD BROADCAST; BUT AFTER LISTENING ALL THE WAY THROUGH I DISCOVERED IT WAS AWOS FOR FORT COLLINS; CO. THIS COULD DEFINITELY CAUSE CONFUSION IF YOU DON'T LISTEN CAREFULLY FOR THE ARPT MAKING THE RPT. 70 MI OUT IN A JET IS A GOOD TIME TO GET AN ATIS BROADCAST; ESPECIALLY IN UNUSUAL TERRAIN SUCH AS THE EGE ARPT. WE COULD MAKE AN EARLY DECISION TO DIVERT. HOWEVER; I ELECTED TO TRY AGAIN CLOSER IN. AT 30 MI OUT THE FORT COLLINS WX WAS MAINLY PREDOMINATE BUT THE FREQ WAS ESSENTIALLY UNINTELLIGIBLE DUE TO OVERLAP FROM EGE AND POSSIBLY ELSEWHERE. THIS AWOS IS COMPLETELY UNUSABLE AIRBORNE FOR EGE. THE BURDEN FOR WX THEN FALLS ON A PART TIME FSS WHICH ALSO ACTS AS AN ARPT ADVISORY SVC FOR EGE. THE APCH AT EGE BEGINS AT KREMMLING VOR WHICH IS 20 PLUS MI FROM THE ARPT. EARLY WX INFO IS VITAL. FOR AVIATION AIRBORNE PURPOSES EGE DOES NOT HAVE AN AWOS STATION. IT DOES HAVE A BIG CHANCE OF ERROR BECAUSE THE AWOS THE PLT HEARS IS ACTUALLY FROM OTHER ARPTS. AS THE SNOW AND SKI SEASON APCHS THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME VERY SURPRISED PLTS.
