Narrative
AFTER TKOF FROM MCI AND CLBING THROUGH ABOUT 12000 FT IN CLEAN CONFIGN; NOTICED #1 ENG HYD LOW PRESSURE LIGHT AND THEN SYS 'A' QUANTITY AT '0'. #2 LIGHT THEN CAME ON. WE HAD LOST ALL SYS 'A' HYD PRESSURE. WE RAN THE CHKLIST AND VISUALLY INSPECTED THE LEADING EDGE FLAPS ON L AND R SIDE BECAUSE WE ALSO HAD LEADING EDGE FLAP AMBER LIGHT ON FORWARD INST PANEL AND #2 AND #6 KRUGER FLAP INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE FE INDICATOR PANEL ON. WE THEN CONFERRED WITH MAINT IN IAH AND DISPATCH FOR EXTRA FUEL BURN AT FL290 AND DETERMINED IT WAS SAFE TO CONTINUE TO EWR. DECLARED AN EMER WITH ZNY AND ACCOMPLISHED ALL APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS. WE ALSO DISCUSSED A GAR FOR THIS SIT AND ASKED FOR EMER TRUCKS AND GND HANDLING. WE LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT AND WERE TOWED INTO GATE AT EWR. THE 3-MAN CREW COORD WORKED VERY WELL. IT WAS THE FO WHO BROUGHT UP A POSSIBLE GAR WHICH WAS AN EXCELLENT IDEA. ONE NEVER KNOWS. THE ONLY OTHER UNUSUAL ASPECT OF THIS INCIDENT WAS A THUMPING NOISE FOR THE FIRST MAYBE 10-15 MINS BACK AT MID-CABIN. POSSIBLY THE #1 HYD DRIVE MOTOR (IT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROB) CAVITATING.
