MLG BEGINS TKOF ON WRONG RWY AT CLE; ABORTS.
Narrative
DUE TO CONFUSION AT THE INTXN OF RWYS 23L AND 23R AND 28 AT THE APCH END OF THE RWYS; WE INITIATED A TKOF ON THE WRONG RWY FOR WHICH WE HAD BEEN CLRED. WE HAD BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 23L. BECAUSE OF THE SHORT DISTANCE BTWN THE TERMINAL AND THE RWYS; WE HAD A VERY SHORT TAXI TIME. JUST AS WE REACHED THE HOLD SHORT LINES; WE HAD COMPLETED OUR TAXI CHKLIST AND WERE IMMEDIATELY CLRED FOR TKOF ON 23L. AS THE CAPT TAXIED OUT TO LINE US UP (HE HAS THE NOSE STEERING ON HIS SIDE ONLY); I RAN MY LINE-UP CHKLIST AND HE SAID 'HELLO' TO THE PAX OVER THE PA SYS. LINED UP ON THE WRONG RWY. I TOOK THE THROTTLES AND WE PROCEEDED DOWN THE WRONG RWY. THE TWR CTLR CALLED US TO TELL US WE WERE TAKING OFF ON THE WRONG RWY. WE WERE AT ABOUT 35 KTS AND SO I ABORTED. I THINK A LARGE PART OF THE PROB WAS THE CAPT EXCHANGING 'PLEASANTRIES' (NOT FAA EMER INFO BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY RUN THE AUTO BRIEFER) WITH THE PAX AS WE LINED UP AT AN INTXN WHICH WE BOTH HAD ON ANOTHER OCCASION CALLED CONFUSING. ALSO AS A FO; MY SITUATIONAL AWARENESS WAS VERY POOR. UPON LINING UP; I PUT MY HDG BUG ON THE RWY HDG BUT STILL FAILED TO RECOGNIZE THE PROB. I'M A NEW FO ONLY WORKING FOR 3 MONTHS ON REDUCED REST.
